Thursday, September 26, 2024 Paul Kelly, Indianapolis Motor Speedway

BC39 at IMS

Fifty-nine cars and drivers are set for the USAC NOS Energy Drink Midget National Championship event that culminates in 24 cars racing in a 39-lap feature Saturday night, Sept. 28.

Many of the best short-track drivers in America will compete for one of 24 spots in the feature race of the sixth running of the Driven2SaveLives BC39 presented by Avanti Windows & Doors on Sept. 26-28 at The Dirt Track at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Fifty-nine cars and drivers are set for the USAC NOS Energy Drink Midget National Championship event that culminates in 24 cars racing in a 39-lap feature Saturday night at the quarter-mile dirt oval located inside Turn 3 of the famed IMS paved oval. The winner will earn $20,039.

The field trying to qualify for the feature is stacked. Past BC39 feature winners entered include inaugural winner Brady Bacon and reigning winner Justin Grant.

The top 12 drivers in the current National Championship standings are entered, including series leader Daison Pursley. Other popular drivers participating include Jade Avedisian, Kaylee Bryson, Jerry Coons Jr., Thomas Meseraull, Kevin Thomas Jr. and J.J. Yeley, along with Hoosier home state favorites Emerson Axsom, Kyle Cummins and C.J. Leary.

Due to the large size of the field, action will be split over the first two nights under the lights at IMS. Thirty will compete Thursday, Sept. 26, with 29 on track Friday, Sept. 27. Both nights’ action will include heat races, qualifying races and a semi-feature, concluding with a 30-lap feature paying $5,000 to win.

New this year is the Stoops USAC Sprint Car Invitational on Thursday night featuring 10 cars competing in an exhibition event. It’s the first time USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Cars have raced on the quarter-mile dirt oval.

The invitation-only, non-points special event for USAC Sprint Cars will feature two heat races followed by a 20-lap main event. Among the competitors in the field are past USAC National Sprint Car champions Robert Ballou and Leary and current USAC Sprint Car points leader Logan Seavey.

On Saturday, Sept. 26, multiple C-Mains, semi-features and a Last Chance Race will precede the BC39 feature for USAC NOS Energy Drink Midget National Championship competitors.

Public gates open at 4 p.m. ET Thursday and Friday and 3:30 p.m. Saturday. On-track action starts at 6 p.m. Thursday, 6:30 p.m. Friday and 6 p.m. Saturday. Opening ceremonies for the BC39 Feature Night start at 7 p.m. Saturday.

The Driven2SaveLives BC39 presented by Avanti Windows & Doors continues to honor late USAC champion and three-time Indianapolis 500 starter Bryan Clauson. In addition, it increases awareness of the Indiana Donor Network and its Driven2SaveLives campaign, sponsors of the event since its inception.
